Russia Calls for Political Solution to Middle East Conflict Following US-Iran Talks Revelation

Kathmandu. Following US President Donald Trump's revelation that Washington and Tehran held talks to end the conflict, Russia on Monday called for a "political and diplomatic" solution to the Middle East war.

In a conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Russian diplomat Sergey Lavrov urged an immediate end to hostilities and the search for a political solution that considers the legitimate interests of all parties involved in Iran.

The Russian statement made no mention of the US-Iran talks. While the US stated that talks were underway, Tehran has not confirmed this. President Trump wrote on social media on Monday, "In the past two days, there have been very good and fruitful conversations between both sides for a complete resolution of hostilities."

President Trump had previously warned Iran to reopen the 'Strait of Hormuz,' threatening to attack Iran's energy infrastructure otherwise. However, on Monday, he stated that he had ordered a halt to attacks for five days.

The waterway has been closed since the war began following the US-Israel bombing of Iran on February 28. Moscow stated that Iran initiated the talks first.--
