Over 3 Million Afghan Refugees Returned Home in Past Year, Official Says

Kathmandu. In the last one year, more than 3 million Afghan refugees have returned to their country.

Abdul Muttalib Haqqani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation of Afghanistan, informed that more than 3 million Afghan refugees returned from Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey.

“A total of 3,114,107 refugees have returned to Afghanistan from those countries in the one-year period up to March 20,” Afghanistan's state radio and television (RTA) reported late Saturday, quoting Haqqani.

“The Afghan government has provided approximately four billion Afghan cash and temporary shelters to manage those returning from those countries to their homeland,” RTA reported.

According to government statistics, more than 6 million Afghan refugees are reportedly residing in neighboring Iran and Pakistan, and they have urged refugees without legal documents to return to their homeland.
