Nepal Oil Corporation Begins Distributing Half Gas Cylinders Amid Severe Shortage, Offering Consumers Temporary Relief

Kathmandu. Amid the severe shortage of fuel and cooking gas recently seen in the country, the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has started distributing half cylinders of gas, bringing some relief to consumers. General public who came to the NOC's central office in Teku, Kathmandu on Tuesday to collect gas expressed happiness over receiving fuel, even if it was only half a cylinder, during this time of crisis.

This arrangement has helped consumers, whose stoves have remained unlit for a long time due to the lack of gas, to temporarily manage the immediate problem. Following the widespread scarcity of gas in the market, the NOC has begun making half cylinders of gas available for 955 rupees.

Consumers who faced harassment waiting for weeks to get their names registered at depots are now coming to Teku to collect gas. A consumer from Kaloanki, who came to Teku for gas, shared that she had been waiting at the Khasebazar depot for 10 days without receiving gas, and when the situation became impossible for cooking at home, she came here. She expressed gratitude for the NOC's initiative, stating that even half a cylinder would suffice for a few days.

Consumers also complained that due to the gas shortage, some families were forced to go hungry. Another consumer met in Teku said he came after hearing that gas was being distributed here after trying everywhere else in vain.

He said, 'When things are difficult, even half is enough to manage; everyone must work together to solve this problem.' The public has been severely affected after artificial scarcity in the market and supply disruptions due to international reasons.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Oil Corporation claims to have arranged distribution so that consumers do not have to return empty-handed. According to NOC representative Binod Kumar Baidya, distribution is being carried out keeping in mind consumer demand and the shortage.

The NOC stated that the concept of half a cylinder was introduced to reduce the pressure of gas in the market and ensure fuel reaches everyone's access.
