India's Shubman Gill Sets Sights on 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup Victory as 'Ultimate Goal'

Kathmandu. India's One Day International captain, Shubman Gill, has stated that winning the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup is his 'ultimate goal'. India came very close to winning the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup but was defeated by Australia in the final.

Speaking at the BCCI Awards ceremony, Gill said, 'That is certainly the ultimate goal. Last time we reached the final right here in India and were very close to the title. Getting that opportunity again in South Africa will be a big chance for us.'

He stated that winning any format of the World Cup for the country would be the biggest achievement. 'Winning any format of the World Cup for the country is the ultimate goal. So that thought sometimes comes to my mind,' he said.

The 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup will be hosted in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. The tournament is scheduled for October-November and will feature 14 teams.

Meanwhile, India's T20 International captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has said that if he gets the opportunity to play again, he would want to repeat and win the 2023 World Cup final.

He said, 'It would feel great to play the 2023 World Cup final held in Ahmedabad again and to win it.'

According to Suryakumar, India winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2024 provided great inspiration to Indian cricket. Following that, India won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, and the women's Indian cricket team succeeded in winning the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in 2025.

He said, 'We needed that initial success. After achieving that success in 2024, everyone understood what is needed to win an ICC trophy. Now there is no looking back, we will try to win as many trophies as possible.'
