Kanchanpur Municipality Announces 50% Subsidy for Commercial Banana Farmers

Kanchanpur. Kanchanpur Municipality has announced significant relief for farmers engaged in commercial banana cultivation. With the aim of professionalizing the agricultural sector and increasing farmers' income, the municipality has put forward a plan to distribute banana saplings with a 50 percent subsidy.

According to the Agriculture Branch, farmers, agricultural groups, firms, cooperatives, and agricultural entrepreneurs will directly benefit from this program. The municipality aims to distribute saplings worth a total of 1 million rupees, of which the municipality will bear 500,000 rupees, while the remaining 500,000 rupees must be invested by the respective farmers.

According to Lal Bahadur Dhami, Chief of the Agriculture Branch, commercial banana cultivation is currently taking place on more than 55 hectares of land across various wards of the municipality, with more than 35 farmers actively involved. This new subsidy program is expected to add further momentum to the expansion of cultivation.

Interested farmers or firms wishing to receive the saplings must submit an application with the necessary documents to the municipality within 30 days. Along with the application, provisions require submission of the banana variety, the number of saplings, a copy of the land ownership certificate, or a rental agreement if the land is leased. Farmers cultivating on uncultivated land can also avail this facility by submitting proof of possession.
