CPN-UML Central Committee Member Krishna Thapa Dies of Heart Attack in Pokhara

Pokhara. CPN-UML Central Committee member and Kaski District In-charge Krishna Thapa passed away on Thursday due to a heart attack. Thapa suffered the heart attack while interacting with leaders after addressing an election review program for Kaski Constituency 1.

According to eyewitness Tikaram Pangeni, Thapa was suspected of having a heart attack after making a gurgling sound from his throat while shaking hands with him, and he was rushed to the hospital. Despite being taken to the hospital within 9 minutes, doctors could not save Thapa.

Thapa is the former Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City. He served as Mayor from 2054 to 2059 BS. In the 2070 BS Second Constituent Assembly election, he was defeated from Kaski-2. Subsequently, Thapa was elected as a Provincial Assembly member from Kaski 2 (A) in the 2074 BS election.

He resigned before the completion of his term as a Provincial Assembly member and contested for the Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City in 2079 BS. However, he was unsuccessful at that time. In the current election, he received the ticket for the House of Representatives from Kaski-2. The ticket he initially received was revoked following intense criticism within the party.

Rashmi Acharya contested the election using his ticket. Following this, Thapa was disgruntled with the party's top leadership. He had been publicly alleging a conspiracy against himself. At the party's review meeting, Thapa had stated that he would take full responsibility for the party's defeat and was prepared to face any disciplinary action the party might take in return.
