CPN-UML Chairman in Baglung Resigns Citing Poor Electoral Performance

Pokhara. Ramkrishna Sharma, the CPN-UML Chairman in Baglung Municipality, has resigned. He stated that he resigned on moral grounds after his party failed to secure sufficient votes from his municipality in the House of Representatives election.

The CPN-UML finished third within Baglung Municipality. The Rastriya Swatantra Party's candidate secured 12,176 votes in the municipality, while the Nepali Congress candidate received 4,433 votes. The CPN-UML candidate, Hira KC, obtained a total of only 3,914 votes.

Sharma's statement mentioned that despite his party's strong influence, it was inappropriate for him to remain in office following the embarrassing results in this election. He pointed out the necessity for party reorganization. He wrote, 'Since we could not ensure the victory of the 'Sun' flag-bearing candidate and failed to energize the cadres, I submit my resignation effective today.'

Previously, Khagaraj Acharya, an advisor to the Kaski District Committee, had also resigned. He stated that he resigned himself because Chairman KP Sharma Oli had not yet resigned, which he felt should have happened.
