Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Defeated by Balen Shah in Jhapa-5 Constituency

Kathmandu. Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been defeated by a huge margin in Jhapa-5 under the House of Representatives election. Oli was defeated by Balendra (Balen) Shah of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. Balen was elected with 68,348 votes, while his main competitor Oli was limited to 18,734 votes. Balen defeated Oli by 49,614 votes.

Samir Tamang of the Shram Sanskriti Party stood in third place, while Mandhara Chimariya of the Nepali Congress remained in fourth place. Samir received 9,233 votes, while Mandhara received 1,821 votes.

Oli had been elected repeatedly from Jhapa-5, while Balen was a candidate in the parliamentary election for the first time. RSP had campaigned for Balen as their future Prime Minister. Balen, who was previously the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, resigned after the House of Representatives election was announced and focused on his parliamentary journey.
