Japan Welcomes Peaceful Conclusion of Nepal's House of Representatives Election

Kathmandu. The Japanese government has welcomed the House of Representatives election held in Nepal on March 5, stating that it was conducted peacefully and systematically. Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Press Secretary Kitamura Toshihiro issued a statement considering the completion of voting without any major untoward incident as a positive achievement.

Japan understands that this election has added further enthusiasm in the context of Japan's long-standing support for strengthening Nepal's democratic process. Japan had sent a special team led by Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Shimada Tomoaki to Nepal for a close observation of the election. The team conducted on-site monitoring at various polling stations.

According to the preliminary findings of the Japanese observer team, Nepal's electoral process was conducted in an independent, fair, and transparent manner. The Japanese team concluded that voters enthusiastically exercised their franchise while adhering to the stipulated procedures.

Japan has committed to continuing its support and assistance for the strengthening of democracy in Nepal in the coming days. Japan expects that the new political process starting after the election will proceed smoothly and contribute to the overall development of the country. Keeping in mind the old and deep-rooted relationship between the two countries, Japan clarified that it will always be ready to further refine Nepal's democratic practices.
