Trump Rules Out US Ground Troops for Iran, Calls Deployment 'Waste of Time'

Washington D.C. ". US President Donald Trump has stated that there are currently no plans to send US ground troops to Iran. He called such a step a 'waste of time'. In an interview with NBC News on Thursday, Trump said, 'Sending troops there now is a waste of time. They have lost everything. They have lost their navy, there is nothing left to lose.' Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had stated that Iran was ready for a potential ground invasion by the US or Israel.

Trump, however, said Araghchi's comment was not worth heeding. Trump also stated that the current leadership structure in Iran needs to change. He said, 'We want to clean up the current leadership structure. Iran needs better leaders. I have some people in mind who can do a good job,' he said. But he did not disclose who he is considering as potential new leadership. He also said that steps are being taken to ensure those people survive in the event of a war with Iran. 'We are watching them, yes,' he said. In another interview with Axios on Thursday, Trump stated that the US should be involved in the appointment of Iran's new Supreme Leader.
