Rastriya Swatantra Party Candidate Claims Attack Ahead of Election; Police Report Discrepancy

Rupandehi. The candidate from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Sulabh Kharel, stated that he was attacked by an unknown group the day before the election.

However, the police reported that Kharel himself was not attacked, but three members of his secretariat were injured. 

Kharel, a candidate from Rupandehi Constituency No. 2, wrote on social media on Wednesday night that individuals who came to the hotel where he was staying in Butwal severely beat some colleagues from his secretariat. He also mentioned that those involved in the attack have been identified and the police have started their work. 

He concluded by writing, ‘Tomorrow's vote count will answer everyone.’ 

Meanwhile, the Chief of the District Police Office, Rupandehi (SP) Janak Shahi, clarified that candidate Kharel was not attacked. According to him, a quarrel occurred at the hotel in Butwal, resulting in three people from Kharel's side being injured. SP Shahi stated that the individuals involved in the assault have been identified and will be brought under the legal purview soon. 

In Rupandehi Constituency No. 2, other candidates competing include Bishnu Paudel of CPN-UML, Chunnu Prasad Paudel of Nepali Congress, Subas Pandey 'Biswadeep' of Nepal Communist Party, Narayan Nagila of Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party, and Birendra Bikal of CPN (Maoist Centre), among others.
