Sparrow SMS to Block Political Campaign Messages During Election Silence Period

Kathmandu. Sparrow SMS, Nepal's leading SMS service provider, has announced it will completely block political campaign messages during the 48-hour silence period mandated by the Election Commission.

The company stated that it has implemented a system to control political SMS transmissions through its platform, respecting the election code of conduct and the silence period.

Sparrow SMS announced the activation of a special 'Keyword Block System' to ensure a clean, fair, and dignified environment during the election period.

This automatic system will identify and prevent the transmission of SMS containing words and content related to political parties, candidates, and election campaigning. The company believes this will prevent violations of the election code of conduct that could occur through digital means during the silence period.

Manoj Thapa, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sparrow SMS, stated that adhering to the guidelines of the Election Commission is their responsibility as a responsible technology service provider.

The company clarified that only messages related to political campaigning will be blocked during the silence period.
