NPU denounces attack on Morang-based journalist Giri

Kathmandu – Nepal Press Union (NPU) has condemned the attack on its Morang chapter treasurer Dinesh Giri. Journalist Giri was physically assaulted by a group of three individuals on Saturday evening. Bishal Thapa, Jagen Gurung and Chitra Khadka allegedly reached his Belbari-based residence and attacked him. He sustained injuries to his head and other body parts in the incident which he described as preset.

The journalist said he was subjected to the physical assault just for writing the news about public concern. The NPU, an organisation of democratic journalists, has condemned the incident and demanded stringent action against the perpetrators.

"The NPU demands the local administration and local level representatives ensure safe environment for journalists so that they could collect and disseminate news without any fear," NPU General Secretary Ajaya Babu Shiwakoti said in a press note today. ---
