Three Arrested in Brutal Murder of Youth in Dhanusha, Allegedly Involving Girlfriend and Family

Three individuals, including the deceased youth's girlfriend and her family members, have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a young man in Dhanusha district.

The District Police Office, Dhanusha, made the detailed findings public during a press conference. On Thursday, Falgun 14, around 4 PM, the body of a young man was discovered in the Masuri field, approximately 300 meters east of the inner road section in Aurahi Rural Municipality-6, Chakkar. The body, found with its throat slit, was identified as 18-year-old Sumit Kumar Mandal, a resident of Hanshpur Municipality-9, Budhaul (Rudauli) in Dhanusha.

He was a student studying in Grade 11 at Sagarmatha Secondary School. Preliminary police investigation revealed that the deceased Sumit had been in a romantic relationship for the past year with 17-year-old Kajal Kumari Mandal, who resides in Hanshpur Municipality-6, Sonigama. On the evening of Falgun 13, Kajal called Sumit to meet her when no one was home. It was during this meeting that Kajal's family members allegedly found them in an objectionable position, leading to a dispute.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Rugmabahadur Kunwar of the District Police Office, Dhanusha, after taking Sumit into custody, Kajal's elder brother, 20-year-old Dipeshkumar Mandal, and her cousin (also an elder brother figure), 29-year-old Parmeshwar Mandal, tied Sumit's hands behind his back with a rope used for tethering buffaloes. Subsequently, they took him on his own motorcycle to the uninhabited Masuri field, about one and a half kilometers from the house.

Police stated that he was murdered there by slitting his throat after attacking him with a Khukuri (machete). After the murder, the accused hid Sumit's motorcycle at a friend's house in Bideh Municipality-1 to conceal evidence. The police have recovered the motorcycle, the sharp weapon (Khukuri) used in the murder, and the rope used to tie his hands.

Those arrested include the deceased's girlfriend Kajal Kumari Mandal, her elder brother Dipeshkumar Mandal, and her cousin Parmeshwar Mandal. Further investigation is underway against them under the charge of homicide.

SP Kunwar informed that out of the six murder cases that occurred recently in Dhanusha, four have been successfully investigated, bringing the perpetrators to justice, and the remaining two cases are also under meticulous investigation.
