Manchester United Faces ".9 Million Payout After Sacking Former Manager Ruben Amorim

Old Trafford. Famous football club Manchester United has confirmed that sacking its former manager, Ruben Amorim, will cost the club nearly ".9 million pounds. The 41-year-old Portuguese manager, Amorim, was immediately dismissed after publicly expressing anger towards the club's leadership following a 1-1 draw with Leeds United on January 5.

According to a report published on the New York Stock Exchange, the club has provisioned ".9 million pounds for the potential liability to be paid to Amorim and his coaching staff. This financial burden is significantly higher than the cost incurred when bringing Amorim to the club.

United spent 11 million pounds to bring the Portuguese manager from Sporting club to Old Trafford in November 2024. Including the 10.4 million pounds spent on removing the previous manager, Erik ten Hag, this series of managerial changes has burdened the club with a total of 37.3 million pounds. Amorim's 14-month tenure has become the shortest permanent spell since David Moyes in 2014.

Under Amorim's management, United's performance was historically weak. Out of the 63 matches he managed, the team managed to win only 25. Finishing 15th in the Premier League last season was United's worst result since 1973-74.

Not only that, the team suffered a humiliating exit by losing the Europa League final and being defeated by fourth-division side Grimsby on penalties in the Carabao Cup. Poor relations with Football Director Jason Wilcox and public criticism became the main reasons for his dismissal.

However, former player Michael Carrick, who came in as interim manager after Amorim's departure, has changed the team's fortunes. With 5 wins out of 6 matches played under Carrick's leadership, United has now climbed to fourth place in the Premier League. This has strengthened the club's chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Financially, the club has reported a profit of 32.6 million pounds in the second quarter period.
