Nepali Congress Claims Elements Actively Working to Disrupt Upcoming Elections

Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress has stated that elements actively seeking to prevent the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21 are active. The Congress maintains that the government must be resolute in thwarting the strategies of these elements and ensuring the election takes place on time.

Addressing a press conference at the party's central office in Sanepa, Congress Spokesperson Devraj Chalise also stated that the legitimacy of governance stems from the people's vote.

'Various elements are working to prevent the election from happening on time. The government must be firm and complete the election on schedule,' Spokesperson Chalise said. 'In a democratic system, the source of governance legitimacy is the people's vote. A democratic party must accept popular sovereignty. We have accepted it.'

He also stated that all parties should not consider any alternative other than participating in the election. When asked by journalists about former King Gyanendra's call for a national consensus before the election, Spokesperson Chalise said that everyone has personal freedom and there would be no comment on private expressions.

'Everyone has personal freedom. There is no comment on private freedom,' Spokesperson Chalise said. 'But the source of governance legitimacy is the election and the people's vote. The government formed by the mandate after the election will solve the people's problems.'

He mentioned that leaders and activists are joining the Congress from various parties, and these inductions are bringing the party close to securing a majority.
