Election Commission Refers 290 Content Producers for Action Over Harmful Information Dissemination

Kathmandu. The Election Commission has written to the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police to take action against 290 content producers and disseminators for generating and transmitting harmful information.

During a regular press conference held on Friday, the Commission's Assistant Spokesperson Sita Pun informed that those engaging in activities contrary to the election code of conduct have been sent to the relevant bodies for action.

'The Information Integrity Promotion Unit, established within the Commission under the Election Information Dissemination and Coordination Center, is fully active to monitor individuals spreading false and misleading information and hate speech that violates the election code of conduct, and to bring individuals and organizations engaging in illegal acts under the purview of the law in coordination with regulatory bodies. 290 content producers/disseminators generating and transmitting harmful information have been sent to the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police for action in accordance with the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063,' she said.

Similarly, she informed that 11 have been sent to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority for action in accordance with the Telecommunications Authority Act, 2052, 65 to the Press Council Nepal for action in accordance with the Press Council Act, 2048, and one has been sent for action in accordance with the Advertising (Regulation) Act, 2076.
