Seven Political Parties Update Election Accounts Ahead of House of Representatives Polls

The Election Commission has informed that seven political parties have updated their election accounts for the purpose of the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21. Issuing a statement on Friday, the Commission shared that seven parties and 867 candidates have opened bank accounts.

‘According to the updated details, 7 (seven) political parties and 867 candidates have opened bank accounts and informed the relevant offices about it,’ the statement read.

To ensure transparency of financial assistance received by political parties and candidates in the election, compliance with the expenditure limits set by election law, and effective monitoring, the Commission had approved and implemented the Working Procedure for Election Publicity Bank Account (Operation and Management), 2082.

As per the approved procedure, for the purpose of participating in the House of Representatives Election, 2082, all political parties registered with the Commission, candidates for proportional representation and first-past-the-post systems, and independent candidates are required to conduct all income and expenditure transactions related to election publicity funding through the same account.

Furthermore, the Commission stated that discussions are ongoing with the parties regarding expenditure management. The Commission has completed a discussion program on election publicity expenditure management in the presence of representatives from political parties. Representatives from 75 political parties were invited to the discussion program. The statement mentioned that the Commission will conduct such programs in all seven provinces to increase transparency in election spending, with representation from political party representatives and stakeholders.
