Nepali Congress Chapter Recommends Expulsion of Former Central Member Deep Kumar Upadhyay Over Son's Independent Candidacy

Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress Kapilvastu chapter has recommended disciplinary action, including expulsion from ordinary membership for five years, against former central committee member Deep Kumar Upadhyay for fielding his son, Ashish Sharma, as an independent candidate against the party's official decision.

Upadhyay's son, Ashish, has filed an independent candidacy in Kapilvastu-1. Upadhyay is a former minister, former lawmaker, and former Nepali Ambassador to India.

The Kapilvastu District Working Committee of the Congress, in its meeting on Tuesday, recommended disciplinary action against Upadhyay, rebel candidate Ashish, and Abdul Mannan Khan, the regional chairman for the House of Representatives constituency number 1 in Kapilvastu, along with 19 others, recommending their expulsion from ordinary membership for five years to the Lumbini Provincial Committee and the Central Disciplinary Committee, informed District President Abdul Kalam.

 'As per the decision of the District Disciplinary Committee, we have recommended action against Ashish Sharma, who filed candidacy against the party's official candidate, former central committee member Deep Kumar Upadhyay, and Regional Chairman of House of Representatives Constituency No. 1, Abdul Mannan Khan, along with 19 others,' Kalam told Ratopati, 'We have recommended action against them to the Lumbini Provincial Committee and the Central Disciplinary Committee, expelling them from ordinary membership for five years.'

The Congress has nominated Athar Kamal Musalman as the candidate in this constituency. The Kapilvastu District Disciplinary Committee of the Congress, in its meeting on Falgun 3, had recommended to the District Working Committee the expulsion from party membership for five years, in accordance with Article 34 (4) (a) and (b) of the party's statute. District President Kalam informed that the decision was made and recommended for action in line with that recommendation.

Those recommended for action include Mahasamiti members Rajesh Bahadur Singh, Kamal Tandon, and Bishnu Prasad Neupane, party district members Hariraj Ghimire, Durga KC, Kamalraj Acharya, and Dolakram Ghimire.
