Court Staff Protest Killing of Engineer in Sarlahi, Demand Justice and Security Guarantees

Sarlahi. Following the murder of a sub-engineer by unknown assailants via a shooting incident in Malangwa headquarters on Sunday night, employees of the Sarlahi District Court have obstructed services today in protest. Demonstrating at the main gate of the District Court, they are demanding action against the culprits responsible for the murder and a 'guarantee' for employee security.

The sub-engineer, 36-year-old Pramod Kumar Yadav, who worked at the Infrastructure Development Office and was a resident of Sukhipur Municipality-6, Siraha, was shot dead by an unknown person at his rented room in Malangwa Municipality-10 on Sunday night.

Sub-engineer Yadav had only returned to Malangwa on Sunday afternoon after completing the funeral rites for his father, according to Sarlahi District Police Superintendent Yogendra Kumar Khadka. He stated that investigations are underway from various angles, as the incident occurred immediately after Yadav returned from his home.

The deceased's wife, Punam Yadav, stated that individuals on a motorcycle called Sub-engineer Yadav outside his room and shot him. Police reported that he was shot in the left chest. One spent casing was recovered from the scene.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Saroj Rai stated that preliminary investigations suggest a small weapon (pistol) was used in the incident. Police rescued Yadav, who had collapsed after being shot, and rushed him to the Provincial Hospital in Malangwa on Sunday night. Doctors declared him dead immediately upon arrival at the hospital.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Rai stated that the motive for the shooting has not yet been determined. Sub-engineer Yadav had been living in the rented room in Malangwa-10 with his wife and two-year-old daughter.
