CII President Unveils Ambitious Goal to Grow Nepal's Economy to $100 Billion Within a Decade

Kathmandu. The President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), Birendra Raj Pandey, has publicly announced an ambitious goal to expand the country's economy to a size of $100 billion within the next decade.

He stated that achieving a qualitative leap from the current economy of approximately $45 billion necessitates substantial industrial production, export promotion, and the elimination of legal hurdles. Speaking at the CNI-organized 'Swadeshi Nepal: Meet & Greet, 2026' event, he also informed that the Confederation is currently conducting a detailed study on this matter.

President Pandey demanded that the government create an investment-friendly environment for industrial development and job creation. He expressed concern that the work to amend laws acting as obstacles to economic development has been slow. He clarified that the Confederation has already submitted suggestions to the government, complete with specific clauses detailing which laws should be repealed and which should be amended.

Informing about CNI's affiliation with the 'Agora' platform through collaboration with the United Nations Capital Development Fund, he expressed confidence that this will expand the international market access for Nepali goods. Similarly, emphasis has been placed on the use and promotion of the 'Swadeshi' collective trademark for the protection of domestic industries.

Pandey analyzed that mandating the use of domestic goods and services by bodies such as the government, public institutions, the Nepali Army, and the Nepal Police would significantly boost industrial production. Stressing the need to change consumption patterns for a self-reliant and production-oriented economy, he stated that integrated efforts from the private sector and the government are essential.
