Heightened Security Ahead of Former King Gyanendra's Arrival in Kathmandu

Kathmandu. Former King Gyanendra Shah is arriving in Kathmandu today from Jhapa. Supporters of the former king have made preparations to welcome him at the airport. The United People's Movement Committee, led by Navaraj Subedi, has called for a grand welcome by gathering at Tribhuvan International Airport at 12 o'clock.

The local administration has tightened security arrangements due to fears of potential unruly activities during the welcome program. Police have been deployed under the command of 20 DSPs from the Golden Gate of the International Airport up to Nirmal Niwas.

SP Pawan Bhattarai of the Kathmandu District Police Range told Ratopati that entry will be strictly controlled as an injunction has been imposed inside the airport premises. He stated, 'Entry inside the Golden Gate is prohibited; security personnel have been deployed on the outer road as needed.'

Security personnel from the Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department have also been deployed in the airport area.
