Poetry Writing and Recitation Contest Concludes in Kathmandu for Secondary School Students

A site-specific poetry writing and recitation competition for secondary school students was successfully held in Kathmandu. Students from various schools showcased their literary talents in the event organized by the Balkrishna Shivakoti Memorial Foundation. The award distribution and closing ceremony for this competition, held in memory of the late Balkrishna Shivakoti, concluded grandly in the capital on Wednesday.

In the competition, Bidhan Sapkota from KMC School secured the first position with an outstanding poem creation. He received a certificate along with a cash prize of NPR 20,000. Similarly, Pankaj Binadi from Nepal Vedvidyashram won the second position, taking home NPR 15,000, while Laxita Bhandari from Ratna Rajya Secondary School achieved third place, earning NPR 10,000. Seven other students who demonstrated excellent performance were also awarded consolation prizes of NPR 1,000 each.

The chief guest of the program, senior litterateur and academician Dr. Tulsi Bhattarai, stated that literature plays a significant role in expanding societal consciousness. He mentioned that such on-site writing competitions are extremely effective in developing creativity among the younger generation. He encouraged the participating students to focus not just on awards but also on continuous study and writing practice.

Shanta Shivakoti, the Chairperson of the Foundation, informed that this program was organized to keep the memory of the late Balkrishna Shivakoti alive through creative work. She expressed a commitment to continue this campaign, initiated with the objective of attracting the new generation towards literature, in the coming days. The organizers believe that the event, attended by notable litterateurs and educationists, helped bring out the hidden talents of the students.
