Veteran Nepali Actor Sunil Thapa Passes Away at 68

Kathmandu. Veteran and popular Nepali film actor Sunil Thapa passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 68. He died of a heart attack while undergoing treatment at Norkic Hospital in Thapathali.

Thapa, who was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state in the morning, was declared dead by doctors at 7:30 AM after the ECG report. Thapa, who had been living in an apartment in Shankhamul for a long time, his passing is considered an irreparable loss to the Nepali art sector.

Thapa, who left an indelible mark in Nepali cinema under the name 'Rate Kaila', acted in more than 300 films during his film career spanning over four decades. He showcased his powerful acting magic not only in Nepali but also in Indian (Bollywood) and Bhojpuri films. His role as a coach in Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra's film 'Mary Kom' and his performance in the popular web series 'The Family Man' were appreciated by audiences worldwide.

Thapa's contribution to bringing the villain character to a new height and identity on the Nepali screen is considered unforgettable.

The mortal remains of the late Thapa have been kept at the premises of the Film Development Board in Chabahil for final respects. There is a large presence of filmmakers, artists, politicians, and his well-wishers at the Board. Personalities from various fields are paying heartfelt tributes to him by visiting the Board. With his demise, it is felt that a golden chapter of Nepali cinema has come to an end.
