India Starts T20 World Cup with Dominant Win Over USA; Suryakumar Yadav Breaks Kohli's Record

Mumbai. India has made a spectacular start to the T20 World Cup. In the match held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, the home team India defeated the USA by 29 runs to make a pleasant start to the tournament. 

Captain Suryakumar Yadav was the hero in India's victory. Not only did he deliver an explosive performance with the bat, but he also broke the long-standing record of former captain Virat Kohli. 

Suryakumar has become the Indian player to win the 'Player of the Match' award the most times in T20 Internationals. By securing this award for the 17th time, he surpassed Virat Kohli, who had won it 16 times. Globally, only Birandeep Singh of Malaysia (22) and Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe (19) are ahead of him. 

Surya, who scored an unbeaten 84 runs in his debut World Cup match as captain, came close to Chris Gayle's 2009 record, securing his name in the list of captains with the second-highest score in a World Cup debut. This score is also the fourth-highest individual score made by any Indian batter in the T20 World Cup. 

On the other hand, for USA's main bowler Saurabh Netravalkar, this match was forgettable. He conceded 65 runs in his 4-over spell, which is the most runs conceded by any bowler in the history of the T20 World Cup. 

Previously, Sanath Jayasuriya had conceded 64 runs against Pakistan in 2007. America's bowling lineup was demolished after Suryakumar smashed 31 runs off just 8 balls from Netravalkar, aided by 3 fours and 3 sixes.
