Veteran Nepali Actor Sunil Thapa Passes Away at 68

Kathmandu. Veteran Nepali film actor Sunil Thapa has passed away at the age of 68. He died today while undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali, Kathmandu.

Thapa, who was active in acting, modeling, and sports for over four decades, was extremely popular among the general audience under the name "Rate Kaila." His contribution is particularly noteworthy for elevating the role of the 'villain' in films to a stature and respect comparable to that of a hero.

The Nepali Congress expressed deep sorrow over his demise by issuing a condolence statement. Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa, in a message, stated that with Thapa's passing, both the Nepali and Indian film industries have lost a powerful and multifaceted personality, causing an irreparable loss to the film industry. President Thapa recalled the late Thapa's contributions and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

The statement issued by Acting Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal mentioned that Thapa's contribution will remain indelible in the history of Nepali cinema. The Congress stated that Thapa's death, who succeeded in leaving his mark on both the Nepali and Indian film industries, has created a great void in the field of art.
