Delhi Capitals Thrash Gujarat Giants to Enter Women's Premier League Final

Vadodara. Delhi Capitals has entered the final of the Women's Premier League (WPL). Delhi secured a spot in the title clash by stunning Gujarat Giants by 7 wickets in a thrilling eliminator match held on Tuesday.

Delhi comfortably chased down the target of 169 runs set by Gujarat in just 15.4 overs, losing only 3 wickets, at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. The top-order batters performed excellently in Delhi's victory.

Opener Lizele Lee scored 43 runs and Shafali Verma added 31 runs, giving the team an explosive start. The half-century partnership between these two made the run chase easy. Captain Jemimah Rodrigues played a captain's knock of 41 runs, while Laura Wolvaardt remained unbeaten on 32 runs, guiding the team to victory.

Earlier, Gujarat Giants, batting first after losing the toss, scored 168 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Although Beth Mooney played a half-century innings of 62 runs off 51 balls for Gujarat, other batters could not post big scores.

Georgia Wareham contributed 35 runs. To restrict Gujarat to a moderate score, Delhi's Shikha Pandey bowled a lethal spell taking 3 wickets, while Nandini Sharma took 2 wickets.

Now, for the title, Delhi Capitals will compete against defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore on February 5. Bangalore had directly reached the final by finishing at the top of the points table at the end of the league stage.

The final match will also be held in Vadodara.
