Rastriya Swatantra Party's PM Candidate Balen Shah Addresses Squatter Settlement Issues in Jhapa-5

Kathmandu. Balendra Shah (Balen), the candidate for Prime Minister from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has visited a squatter settlement in Jhapa-5 and offered assurances. During a discussion held on Tuesday, locals voiced their grievances regarding land ownership certificates (Lalpurja) to Balen, the candidate for Jhapa-5.

After listening to the locals, Balen stated that the squatter issue must be viewed from both humanitarian and legal perspectives. Balen mentioned that the nature of the risky settlements along the riverbanks in Kathmandu differs from the old settlements in Jhapa, assuring that genuine squatters would not face injustice.

He emphasized the need to end the practice where only influential people and those engaging in politics in the name of squatters receive the certificates. He stated that before displacing anyone, the government must guarantee their proper management and secure housing.

He also assured that in the coming days, the land commission would be made impartial to ensure that only genuine victims receive the certificates.
