Ice Forms on Gosainkunda Lake Amid Rising Cold; Authorities Urge Caution for Pilgrims

Rasuwa. Ice has formed on the surface of Gosainkunda, a sacred pilgrimage site in Rasuwa, due to the increasing cold. The Gosainkunda Rural Municipality has requested travelers and pilgrims to exercise extreme caution as the risk of accidents from falling through the ice while walking on the surface has increased.

The Rural Municipality office has urged everyone to take necessary precautions, emphasizing that even though it appears to be frozen water, there are deep pools underneath, making the possibility of the ice suddenly breaking high if walked upon.

Urging everyone not to walk on the ice and to maintain a safe distance as travelers could fall into the depths, Rural Municipality Chairman Kaisang Nurbu Tamang also requested everyone not to disrupt religious activities by walking over the Kund (lake).

Local administration, security personnel, and the Rural Municipality have stated they are increasing surveillance, keeping in mind the potential risks as the cold intensifies in the Gosainkunda area and tourist activity remains present. Pilgrims and tourists have been requested to follow local information, directives, and safety standards.

Furthermore, security agencies have requested that travelers only journey with companions in a safe manner, considering the slippery paths in areas where it continues to snow due to adverse weather conditions.
