Heavy Snowfall and Rain in Afghanistan Cause Significant Casualties and Damage

Kabul. Heavy snowfall and rain continuing for the past few days in Afghanistan have caused significant loss of life and property. According to the National Disaster Management Authority, at least 61 people have lost their lives and 110 have been injured in the natural disaster.

This disaster has completely or partially destroyed 458 houses in various regions of Afghanistan. The authority stated that this figure is preliminary and the number of dead and injured could increase as surveys and assessments are ongoing in various locations.

Due to the extreme cold and snowfall continuing for the past three days, major highways connecting the capital Kabul with other provinces have also been blocked.
