AFP team visits RSS, pledge strengthening of bilateral relations
Kathmandu, Dec 10: Agence France-Presse (AFP) South Asia Director Philippe Alfroy and Sales and Marketing Section Chief Kapil Chaudhary visited the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) Central Office at Bhadrakali Plaza on Wednesday.
Aiming to promote professional and bilateral relations, the discussions focused on AFP services, RSS’s use of those services, areas for improvement, and possibilities for mutual cooperation and collaboration, among other issues.
Thanking RSS for giving priority to AFP news content, Philippe pledged to ensure adequate coverage of issues related to Nepal and the Nepali community as requested by the RSS.
Stating that the AFP newsroom has also been affected by the global economic crisis, he said the corporate partnership between AFP and RSS, which has continued for over six decades, will be continued. The regional director also assured that AFP would look into the reasons behind the suspension of foreign training opportunities previously provided to RSS journalists and would make positive efforts to resume them.
The AFP team also visited the RSS Media Museum and library. They echoed the need to further strengthen bilateral corporate relations.
Welcoming the AFP team, RSS Executive Chair Dharmendra Jha said that Nepal’s legal provision requires foreign media services to be disseminated through a one-door system, and RSS is the authorized agency for that purpose. He said AFP news content remains a top priority within RSS’s service dissemination system and is widely visible in Nepali media.
Highlighting the long-standing partnership of more than six decades between AFP and RSS, the RSS Chair said the management is working to enhance staff capacity, improve library management, and strengthen the RSS Media Museum. He also urged the AFP team to resume its training opportunities for RSS journalists halted for the past few years and to provide free video services.
RSS General Manager Sandip Rai was also present on the occasion.
