Meeting with the Chinese leader

U.S. President Donald Trump said he will meet China’s President Xi Jinping during the APEC summit in South Korea. He told a Fox News program that they will meet in a few weeks and that he has arranged meetings with President Xi and other leaders while in South Korea. About the APEC summit

The APEC summit will take place in Gyeongju, South Korea, from October thirty-first to November first. Leaders from many economies will gather there for talks and meetings.

Tensions over trade and rare minerals

Trump had warned he might cancel the meeting after China announced new export controls on rare minerals. He called that move very aggressive and warned of possible U.S. tariff increases in response. Later, he posted on social media that America wants to help China, not hurt it.

First meeting since Trump returned to power

This will be the first time the two leaders meet since Trump returned to office in January.
