Major Revenue Collection in Mustang Customs

The Mustang Customs Office in Nhechung has collected a significant amount of revenue in just three days. The total revenue collected is ninety-seven million sixty-four thousand Nepalese rupees. This income came from goods imported through the Nepal-China Northern Korala border point.

Recent Opening of the Korala Border

The Korala border fully reopened eleven days ago. However, the customs office began its operations this Monday because it needed time for internal preparations and management. So far, 161 electric cars and 85 medium-sized cargo containers have arrived. These containers were cleared by Chinese customs, loaded with goods, and then held at the Mustang Customs Office in Nhechung for inspection.

Current Status of Inspections

According to Mustang Customs Chief Ramesh Khadka, out of the 85 containers held for inspection, 45 have already been cleared. The large revenue collection was made from these 45 cleared containers. Furthermore, the customs office has also processed and cleared two trucks carrying Nepalese goods for export to China. The exported goods are handicraft items.

Goods Awaiting Clearance

Chief Khadka stated that the 45 cleared containers have already left for their destinations. However, 40 containers are still waiting to be inspected. Additionally, the import process for 160 electric vehicles from China is also pending customs clearance.

Challenges in Processing

The Chief District Officer, Vishnu Prasad Bhusal, confirmed that no electric vehicles have been cleared yet. He explained that the delay in customs inspections is due to a limited number of staff at the customs office.

New Banking Requirement

A new financial rule is now in place. Banks and financial institutions must open a Standby Letter of Credit (SLC) for goods imported from China. This must be done before the goods can be inspected and cleared at the Mustang Customs Office.
