Asia Cup: India and Pakistan Set for Another Match in Dubai
Pakistan Advances to Super Four Stage
In the Asia Cup on Wednesday, Pakistan defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This victory allowed Pakistan, along with India, to advance from Group A to the Super Four stage of the tournament. This result has set up another highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan, which is scheduled to take place on September 21.
The Upcoming Super Four Stage
The Super Four stage will feature the top two teams from Group A and the top two teams from Group B. In this stage, every team will play one match against each of the other three teams. This format guarantees that India and Pakistan will face each other once again during the competition.
How the Fixture Was Decided
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had already finalized the schedule for the Super Four stage before the tournament began. The teams qualifying from Group A were designated as A1 and A2, while those from Group B were named B1 and B2. According to this pre-set schedule, the match between A1 and A2 is set for September 21 in Dubai. Since India and Pakistan are the two teams from Group A, they are confirmed to play each other on that date.
Controversy from the First Match
The previous group stage match between the two teams was not without controversy. After India's comfortable seven-wicket victory, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav refused to shake hands with Pakistani captain Salman Ali Agha during the toss ceremony. In response, Salman Ali Agha declined to attend the post-match press conference.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) called the refusal to shake hands "against the spirit of the game." The board also demanded that the International Cricket Council (ICC) remove match referee Andy Pycroft from his role. However, the ICC has rejected this request.
