Trump Sues New York Times for $1.5 Billion

Former US President Donald Trump is filing a lawsuit against The New York Times, demanding $1.5 billion in compensation. He accuses the newspaper of defaming and disrespecting him by consistently publishing false information. Trump stated on his social media platform, Truth Social, that the newspaper's actions must stop immediately. He also claimed that the publication has openly supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election and has become a mouthpiece for what he calls the radical left-wing Democratic Party.

Lawsuit Details and Past Grievances

Trump announced on his post that he plans to file the lawsuit in Florida. He has long expressed dissatisfaction with The New York Times and other media outlets, often referring to them as part of the "left-wing media" that has opposed his presidency. In his recent post, Trump also accused the newspaper and certain TV programs of using sophisticated systems to manipulate documents and visuals to tarnish his reputation. This is not the first time Trump has tried to sue the newspaper; in 2023, he attempted to file a similar lawsuit. At that time, a judge dismissed his $100 million compensation claim, ruling that the legal arguments were not valid under constitutional law.
