Mother and sister of Abducted Nepali Student Bipin Joshi to Travel to Israel in Push for His Release
Kathmandu – The mother and sister of Bipin Joshi, a Nepali student kidnapped by Hamas militants, are preparing to travel to Israel to intensify efforts for his freedom. Joshi was taken captive during the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on a southern Israeli kibbutz, where 10 Nepali nationals were killed and over 1,200 people lost their lives.
According to his cousin Kishor Joshi, the Israeli Embassy in Kathmandu has arranged for Bipin’s mother, Padma, and sister, Pushpa, to fly to Israel next Monday. "Their travel documents are ready, and the embassy has finalized their tickets," Kishor told Khabarhub.
Reports from Kantipur indicate that Israeli authorities plan to facilitate the family’s appeal at the United Nations, seeking global pressure on Hamas for Bipin’s release. Sagi Karni, a senior Israeli foreign ministry official, stated that the visit may also include a requested meeting with the U.S. President.
Bipin had been in Israel under an agricultural training program when he was among 251 hostages seized by Hamas. Following the attack, Nepal’s then-Foreign Minister N.P. Saud visited Tel Aviv to coordinate the evacuation of stranded Nepali citizens.
