Former King Shah to return to Kathmandu amid tightened security

Kathmandu, March 9 — Former King Gyanendra Shah is set to return to Kathmandu from Pokhara today.

After his supporters made preparations to give him a grand welcome, the security arrangements in Kathmandu have been tightened.

According to police sources, security measures have been enhanced to prevent any kind of commotion, illegal activities, or actions contrary to social norms.

The police have considered the area from Tribhuvan International Airport to Nirmal Niwas in Maharajganj as highly sensitive and have increased security accordingly.

Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs had directed its subordinate agencies to make security arrangements, estimating that up to 10,000 people could gather on the streets.

Parties like Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Rashtriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N), and the Durga Prasai group have also started preparations to welcome the former king at the airport today.
