Students fall ill due to severe cold in Dhorpatan

Baglung, March 3 — The cold weather resulting from snowfall that started on Thursday has caused many students in the Dhorpatan valley to fall ill, disrupting their studies.
More than 50 students from a single school have fallen sick, impacting classes.
Students from Jyoti Bikash Secondary School and Siddhabarah Primary School in Dhorpatan Municipality-9, Baglung, have been affected by the cold.
At Jyoti Bikash Secondary School, out of 183 students, only about 100 showed up for classes, and most of them have been suffering from fever and cold. T
he principal of the school, Chakbahadur Adai, mentioned that the cold intensified since Thursday night when snow began to fall.
The absence of warm materials in schools to keep students comfortable in such cold conditions has worsened the situation.
Principal Adai said that the school might have to be closed if students continue to fall ill.
Due to the cold, schools had been closed since Poush 20 (January 4) but reopened on Magh 20 (February 2).
The recent snowfall and ongoing chilly conditions have again impacted student attendance, making learning difficult.
The classrooms, made of cement, get even colder, and there is no system in place to heat them.
Adai suggested that if heaters were provided, it would be easier for students to attend classes.
Chiranjeevi Ghimire, Chief Administrative Officer of Dhorpatan Municipality, emphasized the need for providing materials to protect students from the cold in order to ensure safe and effective learning.
