KU professors announce protest over delayed VC appointment

Kathmandu, March 3 — The Kathmandu University Professors Association has announced a protest demanding pressure for the appointment of the Vice Chancellor.
The association made this announcement after the Vice Chancellor Search and Recommendation Committee failed to make a recommendation so far.
Previously, the association had given a three-day ultimatum. After the committee did not make a recommendation within that time frame, the faculty association decided to go ahead with their protest.
In a press release, the President of the Kathmandu University Professors Association, Dr. Bikas Adhikari, and General Secretary Tejashman Shakya announced a peaceful pressure campaign for seven days as part of the first phase of the protest.
If the selection and recommendation committee does not finalize the Vice Chancellor appointment within this seven-day period, the professors association will immediately urge the Chancellor and Prime Minister, as well as the Pro-Chancellor and Education Minister, to take necessary action and make a suitable decision. If the Vice Chancellor is still not appointed after that, the association has stated they will be forced to announce a second phase of protests.
Despite the completion of the interview and presentation of the 10 shortlisted candidates out of the 20 who applied for the position of Vice Chancellor on February 14 and 15, the recommendation has yet to be made.
The committee members have reportedly disagreed on which candidate to recommend, preventing any final decision.
