Fake refugee scam: Supreme Court to hear Bechan Jha's case today

Kathmandu, March 3 — The Supreme Court is set to hear the case of accused Bechan Jha in the fake Bhutanese refugee case today.
The hearing will be conducted in front of a bench led by Judges Til Prasad Shrestha and Mahesh Sharma Poudel.
Jha was arrested on Ashar 5 (June 19, 2024) in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugee case in Kanchanpur.
Police investigations revealed that Jha had received a check for 20 million rupees from those attempting to send refugees to the United States under the refugee quota.
Jha had taken the 20 million rupee check from Ramsharan KC, a resident of Dhapasi, Tokha Municipality-6.
Ramsharan revealed in his statement that the check had been given to Jha by Sanu Bhandari, one of the planners of the Bhutanese refugee case, from his account at Himalayan Bank.
It is suspected that Jha may have connections with high political leadership, and he is reportedly close to top leaders of the Nepali Congress and Madhesh-based parties.
Investigations have revealed that Sanu Bhandari had told Ramsharan that Jha could facilitate decisions through the Cabinet, making it easier to send Nepali nationals to the United States and other third countries.
However, despite receiving the check, Jha failed to secure any decisions, and he was eventually out of the picture in the refugee case.
