PM Oli highlights governance as a major challenge

Kathmandu, February 21 — Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that good governance has become a major challenge.
Speaking at the book launch ceremony of "Rajeshkaji Shrestha: Personality and Contribution" on Friday, he emphasized that the government is working to accelerate the nation's development while also focusing on establishing just laws and a law-abiding governance system.
He pointed out that good governance is crucial for the country’s prosperity, but it remains a serious challenge.
"Appropriate laws must be created to deliver justice, and everyone must act in accordance with the law," the Prime Minister said. "We believe that the rule of law and good governance must prevail in the country."
Oli emphasized that good governance is the only path to prosperity, which remains a serious challenge.
He also mentioned that the government is actively working to pass laws swiftly and efficiently.
The Prime Minister took the opportunity to discuss the social media bill controversy, mentioning that some political parties, including the Maoists, had previously called for a ban on TikTok while raising a lot of noise.
"Why did they want to ban TikTok back then?" he questioned. "Now, the same supporters are coming out and demanding freedom of speech."
He stressed that while people should have the right to speak, it’s important to speak responsibly and avoid spreading chaos or confusion.
"We must create laws through the social media bill that allow people to express themselves without compromising national peace and security," he added.
PM Oli also addressed rumors about him keeping money in a Swiss bank.
He denied the allegations, stating that he didn’t need such large amounts of money.
"I live on a simple meal of bread and vegetables, my kitchen and bedroom are open for anyone to see, and I have nothing hidden," he clarified. "Spreading false rumors and insults is not our culture. We must not destroy that culture."
He also expressed dissatisfaction with the informal way some people address others, especially using terms like “you” in a disrespectful manner.
"Our language should remain respectful. When addressing our fathers, we should say, ‘Father, would you please come here?’ not something like 'Hey Dad, come here!'” he concluded.
