Prachanda challenges Congress, UML to form alliance for 2027 elections

Pokhara, February 21 — Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center), Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', has challenged the Nepali Congress (NC) and the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) to form a coalition for the 2027 General Elections.

Prachanda made this challenge while addressing the opening ceremony of the National Conference of the Tamu National Liberation Front in Pokhara on Friday.

He stated that only a directly elected executive head could bring political stability, end corruption, and establish good governance.

Prachanda said, "We had set some reservations during the constitution-making process. If constitutional amendments are necessary, we are ready, but for whom and in whose favor? That is the key question."

He further emphasized, "We are in favor of a directly elected executive head and a proportional representation electoral system. Only this can ensure political stability and good governance."

During the event, Prachanda challenged the Congress and UML to form a coalition for the 2027 elections, saying, "Currently, there is a coalition between Congress and UML. They also formed an alliance during the by-elections. They want to form a coalition in 2027. I want them to unite. We will go to the people alone. We trust the power of the people. My appeal to the people is – unite, show your strength."

Prachanda also reaffirmed his commitment to the oppressed classes and communities, stating that he has always struggled on their behalf. "

At times, our class-based stance weakened, but now we are returning to our roots and will stand firmly for the cause," he asserted.
