Janardan Sharma denies party split rumors, emphasizes unity

Kathmandu, February 21 — The Deputy General Secretary of the CPN (Maoist Center), Janardan Sharma 'Prabhakar', has stated that efforts are being made to unite the scattered forces in order to strengthen the party.
In an interview with journalist Rishi Dhamala on the program "Janata Jaanna Chahanchhan," he revealed that initiatives for unity are ongoing with various leaders, including Communist Party of Nepal General Secretary Biplav and Nepal Samajwadi Party (Naya Shakti) Chair Dr. Baburam Bhattarai.
Responding to a question about rumors of the Maoist Center splitting under his leadership, Sharma directly rejected such claims.
He emphasized, "I have registered agendas in the party to make it as the people desire—incorporating abandoned issues and involving marginalized communities. These agendas were approved by the central committee. Anyone who says Janardan is splitting the party is being foolish and anarchic."
He also reminded the audience of the rumors that 16 MPs had signed against Chairman Prachanda during his foreign visit, and he had clarified those rumors at the time. Sharma added that there is no need for concern when opposing wrong activities within the party.
On the question of factionalism in the ANNFSU (Revolutionary) elections, he stated that negative rumors were spread to undermine the morale of the winners. He remarked, "Among those who competed, if someone was chosen, I could say they were good, and according to the party's policies, I have the right to do so. If someone claims there is factionalism, I have nothing to say."
Sharma also expressed that over 90% of the party leaders believe in selecting leadership through elections within the party. He is confident that the leadership selection will take place through competition at the upcoming General Convention.
Regarding the ordinances brought by the government, Sharma clarified that while he did not agree with the process, he did have differences with the ordinance itself.
In reference to former King Gyanendra Shah seeking the people's support, Sharma stated that the former king has the right to speak. He affirmed that everyone has the constitutional right to speak, and unlike in the past, there is no situation where people are prohibited from speaking.
Sharma made it clear that it is not justified to imprison anyone merely for speaking their mind.
