Rajendra Mahato leads march opposing cable car project in Pathibhara

Kathmandu, February 20 — Under the leadership of Rajendra Mahato, the chairman of the Rashtriya Mukti Party-Nepal, a protest march was held today from Phungling Municipality to the Pathibhara Temple.
Approximately 300 people participated in the march, including party leaders like Raman Pandey, Anup Subba, CM Tharu, Santosh Meheta, Chandra Prasad Rajbanshi, Bebi Raj Bhandari, along with local leaders, activists, the Mukkumlung Cable Car Struggle Committee, students, social workers, and individuals from various sectors.
The main objective of this protest march, according to the Rashtriya Mukti Party-Nepal, was to oppose the construction of the cable car project in the Mukkumlung region.
Chair Mahato stated that the project would negatively impact the local culture, traditions, and religious beliefs, leading to the protest.
He emphasized, “The destruction of Mukkumlung's culture and Chotlung civilization will never be tolerated. Our struggle will continue until the construction of the cable car is stopped.”
He and other leaders urged the Nepalese government to take action to halt the project and protect the local heritage.
If the government does not listen, they warned that the movement would escalate further.
Local residents expressed concerns about the potential interference of the cable car project with sacred sites in the area.
While the project could promote tourism, they worry about the negative impact it may have on the region's culture and traditions.
The protest march has shown a united front of local residents and national leaders against the project, calling on the government to halt the project and preserve local civilization.
