NHRC launches investigation into Bal Mandir land scam

Kathmandu, February 14 — The National Human Rights Commission has initiated an investigation into the land scam involving Bal Mandir (a children's organization).
Despite allegations of irregularities when Bal Mandir's land was leased, the then-chairperson, Rita Singh Baidya, was granted immunity.
The Commission began its investigation on Friday.
The investigation was prompted after the decision by the Government Attorney's Office in Kathmandu not to pursue charges against her under the cover of power and authority became public.
Commission spokesperson Dr. Tikaram Pokharel confirmed that the Commission has started the inquiry and investigation under its discretionary jurisdiction.
The Commission has also directed the Patan High Court Government Attorney’s Office, the Kathmandu District Government Attorney’s Office, and the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) in Maharajgunj to provide copies of the decision and investigation files within seven days, as stated in the Commission's press release.
