UML-affiliated teachers refuse to join Nepal Teachers' Federation protest
Kathmandu, February 3 — The protest announced by the Nepal Teachers’ Federation has become a point of controversy.
The teacher’s organization affiliated with the CPN (UML) has decided not to participate in the protest, citing that the Federation announced it without any discussion with them.
The Nepal National Teachers’ Organization has stated that it will not take part in the protest announced by the Federation.
Currently, there is no representation from their organization within the Federation.
The organization made it clear that there is no point in participating in a protest that was declared without any consultation, especially when they have no representation.
General Secretary of the organization, Hansa Bahadur Shahi, mentioned that they have decided not to join the one-sided protest that excluded them.
The Federation has been protesting since February 2, demanding the swift passage of the School Education Bill, the introduction of teacher-friendly education laws, and other related issues.
The Federation declared the protest following its third national plenary meeting in Kathmandu on January 29 and 30. However, the UML-affiliated teacher’s organization has decided not to participate.
The organization also expressed that there is no point in starting a protest while the government is moving forward with the School Education Bill.
They emphasized that efforts should be made to establish the professional rights of teachers through a unified movement, rather than proceeding in a unilateral manner.
