Patan High Court orders free higher education for disabled persons

Kathmandu, January 27 — The Patan High Court has issued an order to provide free higher education to persons with disabilities in public educational institutions.

The order was issued in response to a writ filed by Madan Rokaya, who has a visual impairment, after Tribhuvan University's Public Administration Campus refused to provide free education.

Rokaya had approached the campus administration requesting free education to pursue a Bachelor's in Public Administration before Dashain. However, the campus refused, prompting him to seek legal action.

The court ruled in favor of Rokaya, directing the Public Administration Campus to allow him to study without any fees in accordance with the Constitution, law, and the Supreme Court's precedent.

On January 20, a bench of judges Lekh Nath Paudel and Krishna Ram Koirala issued the order for a writ of mandamus.
