Suryadarshan case: Tight security in Pokhara as verdict expected today

Pokhara, January 9 — The seven defendants in the embezzlement case of Surydarshan Cooperative, including Rabi Lamichhane, the president of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), have been brought before the Kaski District Court.

The case involves Rabi Lamichhane, Chhabilal Joshi, Mina Gurung, Rambahadur Khanal, Leela Pachhai, Arati Gurung, and Krishna Bahadur Gurung.

Today, the government attorney will present a counter-argument in the case.

As the verdict is expected today, security measures have been tightened. Aside from the police, no other individuals are visible on the streets.

The detention hearing for the seven defendants has been ongoing since December 31, presided over by Judge Nitij Rai.

On December 22, the District Government Attorney's Office filed a case against 44 individuals, including Lamichhane, for the embezzlement of the cooperative's funds.

Lamichhane is facing charges of fraud, organized crime, and money laundering in relation to the cooperative.

To date, the District Government Attorney's Office has filed charges against 63 individuals in the cooperative fraud case.

A case for organized crime has been filed against Lamichhane and 19 others.

Lamichhane, along with Khanal, Joshi, and Pachhai, also faces charges related to money laundering.
