Scribe stories for development and prosperity

 

 

Kathmandu– Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has urged media workers to scribe stories in favour of country's development and prosperity. 


At a press release issued on the 63rd establishment day of FNJ, its President Govinda Acharya urged journalists to disseminate factual and objective news, strengthen their oversight on the activities of all state agencies and amplify the public voices. 


The foremost need of the hour is the restructuring of Nepali media sector in line with the letters and spirits of Nepal Constitution and Federal Democratic Republic, Acharya noted, urging the government to implement the National Mass Communication Policy-2073 BS and put in place information and communications related legal and institutional mechanisms in consistent with the policy. 
The umbrella organization of journalists also asked the government for the full implementation of Working Journalist Act,

establishment of mass communications training academy at federal and provincial level, public service broadcasting authority, advertisement council and mass media academy, among others. 
Meanwhile, FNJ has demanded restructuring of Press Council, implementation of proportional advertisement policy, accidental and health insurance for journalists, subsistence allowances for ageing and disabled journalists and establishment of mass media development fund. 


Though the incidents of anti-press have decreased in number of late, the state of impunity and 'self censorship' is still highly prevalent, FNJ noted. 
On the occasion of the establishment day, FNJ is felicitating its former Presidents today.
