Yellow lines marked on Lalitpur roads for traffic management (photos)

Lalitpur, November 19 — Yellow lines have been painted on major intersections of roads in Lalitpur Metropolitan City. The markings, resembling stripes, have been applied on roads from Kupondole to Jawalakhel and Satdobato as part of a traffic light installation program, according to Lalitpur Metropolitan City Information Officer Dev Prasad Guragain.

“These markings are part of the city’s initiative to manage lanes where traffic lights are installed,” Guragain stated. However, the unfamiliar markings have left some residents confused and curious.

Infrastructure expert Ashish Gajurel explained that such markings are commonly used in developed countries. Lalitpur Metropolitan City has adopted this practice to signal that vehicles cannot stop or pedestrians cannot enter within these marked areas. Additionally, vehicles must follow the marked lanes while passing through.

“If there is traffic congestion ahead and a vehicle cannot cross the final point of the yellow line, it must stop at the starting point without blocking the intersection,” Gajurel added. “This system prevents traffic jams caused by vehicles stopping in the middle of intersections.”

While the effort is commendable, Gajurel emphasized the need for public awareness about the purpose and rules of these markings to ensure proper implementation.
